Phone-in Comments with Google Speech-to-Text Technology

Now citizens can leave comments on your public meeting items and cases by phone!

Highlights:

  • We use voice commands and Google’s powerful speech recognition to automatically transcribe audio to text. We make it easy for citizens to provide the same demographic information collected in-person or online in order to mimic the existing public hearing process.

  • Citizens are able to leave comments for specific issues, reducing any manual sorting by staff.

  • Comments are recorded as a voice mail and are transcribed in near real-time, both the audio recording and text file is delivered to your site.

  • Cities can pick the phone number they’d like, opting to select a local area code to avoid long distance charges from carriers.

  • Each item or case gets assigned a unique four-digit code, that can be included on mailers or other materials to help cross the digital divide for those citizens who do not have or prefer not to use a computer or smartphone.

  • Since Google’s speech recognition accuracy varies depending on the commenters ability to articulate clearly, there is also an ability to edit the automated transcription as necessary.

  • Phone-in Comments are moderated just as comments submitted via the web (staff receives notice of a new comment, comment can be approved or rejected) and will be soon available as Live Comments during a meeting.

  • Citizens can opt to get SMS notifications for receipts of comment and when their comment is approved or rejected.
